KILLTWIT 1.0 - Delete messages from a particular user (c) 1991 Glen Johnson
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overview:
For those of you with a good amount of experience in the echomail business,
you'll understand what I mean when I say that this program was inspired by
Jason Steck's KILLRQ program for QuickBBS systems.
KillTwit is in its first incarnation. I'd appreciate any suggestions for
enhancements or bug reports.
What it does:
From time to time, you may run across a user in an echomail conference that
gets under your skin. KillTwit will scan your message area and delete all
the messages that come from that user. The program scans the 36 byte From:
field in each echomail message in a given path, and if there are messages
from that person, they are deleted. The concept is simple, the effect can
be profound! KillTwit only works on .MSG style message bases. Its not
for QuickBBS or other systems.
Notice:
If you feed a conference to another node, running KillTwit on that conference
before you export and pack up the messages for your downlinks, may be a
violation of the rules and regulations of the network you belong to. If you
are going to use KillTwit, run it AFTER you've fed all the messages to your
downlinks.
Disclaimer:
Use this program at your own risk. It works on my system, but that's no
guarantee that it'll perform correctly on yours. This program deletes files
and data. No guarantee of warranty of any sort, expressed or implied, is
given on this software. You assume all responsibility for its use. The author
assumes no responsibility or liability for any damages you or anyone else
may incur as a result of the use or misuse of this program.
Requirements:
DOS 3.3 or better
256k memory
*.MSG format message bases
How it works:
KillTwit reads a control file called KILLTWIT.CFG . The control file must
reside in your default path. In the control file, you specify the pathnames
of the .MSG files you want to scan, and the names you want to scan for.
A match on a name results in the deletion of the corresponding .MSG file .
You can have up to 10 names and 10 paths in the control file.
Note that the stuff in the control file is case IN-sensitive. For example,
Bob Moravsik, BOB MORAVSIK, and BoB MorAvSIk are all treated as the same
name. Searches on the actual message files are also case insensitive.
Format of the control file:
Path: G:\ECHOMAIL\SYSOP
Path: G:\ECHOMAIL\MYECHO
Name: Ralph Kramden
Name: Ed Norton
With this control file, KillTwit will scan G:\ECHOMAIL\SYSOP and
G:\ECHOMAIL\MYECHO and delete all the .MSG files that have either Ralph
Kramden or Ed Norton in the From: field . A sample KILLTWIT.CFG file is
included for those of you that still don't get it :)
And that's about it.
Comments:
Like I said, KillTwit is in its first version. It has no frills, bells or
whistles (yet). I find it to be effective, and relatively quick at its
task. I hope you do too.
If you like KillTwit, and plan on using it, I'd appreciate a $10 donation.
Maybe that'll give me some incentive to enhance the product further. I'd
also like to hear about bug reports and any comments you have.
